Cards come in themed decks, and every card has its own artwork and meaning. Some decks are free, some are in the store, and you can unlock others as you play.
Choose a card, add a personal message and send it to a friend. If they don't have the app yet, the card reaches them by email. If you're stuck for words, the app can suggest a few message ideas to get you started.
Opening a card from someone is the best part. Keep your favourites in your collection and look back at them whenever you need to.
The more you connect, the more you progress. You earn XP, keep streaks going, complete weekly quests, level up, collect badges, and earn tokens that unlock new decks.
Most of us think kind things about the people in our lives all the time: I'm proud of you. I miss you. That thing you said stuck with me. We just rarely say them. The moment passes, a text feels too casual, and a phone call feels like too much.
I wanted something in between. It had to be small enough to send on a whim but still feel like you'd made an effort. A card fits that: a piece of art and a thought someone can open, keep and come back to. I added collecting and levelling up so that reaching out becomes a habit rather than something you only do on birthdays.
Deck of Thoughts is made by me, Darren, an independent developer based in Florida. I built the app myself, from the first sketch to the code running on your phone. No investors, no ad network, no growth team. Every deck, feature and fix goes past the same pair of eyes.
When I'm not working on the app, I write fiction, including a fantasy novel for young readers. Writing is probably why I care so much about small words landing in the right way.
If you have an idea for a deck, find a bug, or just want to tell me about a card that made someone smile, email me at support@deckofthoughts.com. I read every message.
Every card is designed to make someone's day a little better.
You can have a full experience without paying. Store decks are there for people who want more, and you can earn some of them just by playing.
No feeds, no notifications clamouring for attention. Just cards, people and the pleasure of a small thing done well.
Whether it's an idea for a new deck, feedback, or a story about a card that meant something to you — drop us a line.
